The Story

Whiskey & War came from a truth I know too well: a battle can end without everything inside you coming home. I wanted to write honestly about the space between memory and escape, when a bottle promises a little quiet but never gives you peace. The memories still return with old faces, unanswered questions, and weight that does not disappear when the night ends. Whiskey may numb it for a while, but it leaves you walking the same two roads again. I did not write this song to glorify war or drinking. I wrote it for the long middle, where survival is not the same as healing, forgiveness is hard to find, and walking away can remain a promise you make for another night. There is no clean victory here. Memory, survival, and mercy are still trying to make peace.

Lyrics

There's a bottle on the table
And a battle in my chest
One burns slow
One burns deep
But neither lets me rest
I've been fightin' with my memories
Like they're kickin' in the door
Every night it's me and my old friends
Whiskey and war

I don't know which one hits harder
But they both come back for more

Whiskey and war
Both leave me on the floor
One numbs the pain
One brings it back more
I try to drown the fire
But it burns just like before
Tell me what I'm livin' for
Between whiskey and war

Got the faces of my brothers
Still etched on my skin
And the ghosts that never left me
Still askin' where I've been
I keep tryin' to find forgiveness
But I'm not sure what for
Every night I walk the same two roads
Whiskey and war

Whiskey and war
Both leave me on the floor
One numbs the pain
One brings it back more
I try to drown the fire
But it burns just like before
Tell me what I'm livin' for
Between whiskey and war

Someday I'll walk away
But tonight I'm stuck once more
With my old friends
Whiskey and war

There's a bottle on the table
