No Applause for the Broken
No Applause for the Broken
A dark Americana testament to the unseen work of surviving - one hard step at a time, with no crowd watching.

The Story
I wrote No Applause for the Broken for the people who keep going without recognition. The ones carrying wounds nobody sees, saying they are fine when they are not even close, and doing whatever it takes to make it through another night. We celebrate the win, the comeback, and the person standing in the light. We rarely talk about the private work it took to keep that person alive long enough to get there. This song is not asking for sympathy, praise, or a medal. It is about the stubborn breath and forward motion that remain when there is no crowd, no reward, and no promise the road will get easier. Sometimes survival is not a victory speech. Sometimes it is one hard step, then another, with your heart still open. There may be no applause for that kind of strength. It still matters.

Lyrics
There's a room full of noise down the hall tonight
Everybody clappin' for a fight they never fought
I've been learnin' how to breathe in the half-light
With a heart held together by what it's not
I've worn smiles like borrowed coats
Said "I'm fine" when I wasn't even close
Some wounds don't show, they just ache
In the quiet choices a man makes
They don't see the cost of stayin' upright
When you're barely standin' straight
There ain't no applause for the broken
No curtain call when you survive
No one cheers when you keep on goin'
Just to make it through the night
No medals hang from empty hands
No spotlight when you don't give in
Just a man doin' the best he can
Yeah, no applause for the broken
I made peace with the way it goes
Some things you carry, some you don't
Ain't every prayer answered loud
Some just teach you how to hold on
I've watched good men fade to ghosts
Chasin' praise like it's somethin' owed
Me, I learned to walk alone
With my head down, heart still open
They love the win, they love the show
But they never love the road
There ain't no applause for the broken
No curtain call when you survive
No one cheers when you keep on goin'
Just to make it through the night
No medals hang from empty hands
No spotlight when you don't give in
Just a man doin' the best he can
Yeah, no applause for the broken
Let 'em clap for the strong and shining
Let 'em toast the fearless ones
I've been busy keepin' my soul alive
When quittin' felt easier than runnin' on
I don't need a witness stand
Or a crowd to understand
If I make it home in one piece
That's enough for me
There ain't no applause for the broken
No parade at the finish line
Just stubborn breath and forward motion
One hard step at a time
No glory waits for the unseen
No reward for holdin' on
But I'll still stand on my own two feet
Yeah, no applause for the broken
No applause
But I'm still here
There's a room full of noise down the hall tonight
Everybody clappin' for a fight they never fought
I've been learnin' how to breathe in the half-light
